FAQ

What is Nylon Turf?

Nylon is a premium turf fiber with a higher melting point than the Poly used in most budget mats. It resists the heat from club strikes, so it won’t streak your clubs, and it holds up better to sun, weather, and heavy use.

How heavy is a Proball hitting mat?

Weight depends on the backing. Our 6 x 12 foam-backed Nylon mats weigh 56 to 61 lbs, and the urethane-backed versions weigh 28 to 30 lbs. Because the foam versions are over 50 lbs, we recommend two people for moving or carrying one. Every Proball hitting mat can be rolled for transport or storage.

How durable is this mat?

This mat is built from commercial-grade Nylon turf, which resists cleat wear, UV, and weather, and handles friction heat better than poly. That makes it a longer-lasting choice for outdoor practice season after season. The urethane coating on the back is thin but durable, and it isn’t damaged by water, so rain won’t break it down. The batter’s box lines are tufted into the turf, so they won’t wear off like paint. The home plate is spray-painted, though, and will show wear over time with heavy use. The mat is also covered by our 3-Year Limited Warranty.

Why choose All Turf Mats?

We make our own turf from yarn made by Lex Lawn, right here in Dalton, Georgia. Buying factory-direct means no middleman and honest pricing on commercial-grade Nylon, with FREE Shipping on every mat.

Will the mat slide?

It depends on the surface. The urethane coating is thin, durable, and lightweight, so it doesn’t have the grip of a foam backing. On rough outdoor surfaces like asphalt, packed dirt, or grass, the ground texture helps hold the mat in place. For the most stable setup, secure it by staking it into grass or dirt, or taping it down on asphalt and concrete. On smooth indoor floors like garage slabs, gym floors, or polished concrete, a urethane mat can slide under batter footwork, so we recommend our 5mm foam-backed Proball mats for indoor use. Stakes, tape, and other fastening materials are not included.

Why not a cheaper mat?

Cheaper mats often use Poly turf, which wears out much faster and will streak your clubs leaving green film. Ours is commercial-grade Nylon built in house to last for seasons.

Are Proball mats cleat-resistant?

Our Nylon Proball hitting mats are cleat-resistant. Nylon holds up to cleat wear better than Poly and is also more UV-resistant, weather-resistant, and heat-resistant, which is why we recommend it for frequent practice, schools, and facilities. Poly (the 502 series) is our economy option, better for recreational or lower-frequency use.

Others vs Ours

Most hitting mats on the market are made with Poly turf. Under constant cleat and turf shoe friction, Poly wears down quickly and often needs replacing every season. Our Nylon Proball mats are cleat-resistant and built to hold up in high-traffic use, season after season. Poly mats may look the same at the beginning, but after a few months of usage, they look very different.

6x12 Proball Baseball Hitting Mat in Green Nylon with Urethane-Coated Backing

The green Proball Baseball Hitting Mat with urethane-coated backing puts a regulation batter's box on commercial-grade Nylon turf at about 30 lbs, roughly half the weight of our foam-backed models. It rolls up quickly and is built for outdoor hitting on backyard grass, packed dirt, driveways, and asphalt pads.

Built for Baseball Training

  • Regulation 6x12 batting mat with batter's box lines tufted into the turf, so they won't wear off like paint.
  • Green commercial-grade Nylon turf with a 3/8" pile. It's cleat resistant, UV and weather resistant, and more heat resistant than poly.
  • Longer-lasting than poly for outdoor practice season after season. Our baseball hitting mat buying guide explains the difference.

Spray-Painted Home Plate

The home plate is spray-painted onto the turf, our economy configuration. It works well for home and lower-volume practice and will show wear over time in high-traffic settings. Want a plate you can move or replace? Add a Throw Down Home Plate.

Urethane-Coated Backing

  • Thin, durable coating about the thickness of a credit card that keeps the mat light and easy to roll.
  • Built for rough outdoor surfaces like asphalt, packed dirt, and grass. Staking or taping the mat gives you the most stable setup.
  • Not damaged by water. Rainwater seeps through over time instead of pooling on the mat.
  • Hitting indoors on a smooth floor? Urethane can slide under footwork, so choose the green 5mm foam version instead.

Good to Know

  • Weighs about 30 lbs and rolls up for transport and storage.
  • Ships rolled with FREE Shipping. Allow 24 to 48 hours for it to fully flatten.
  • Clean it with a hose or pressure washer.
  • Stakes, tape, and other fastening materials are not included.
  • Made in Dalton, Georgia, sold factory-direct, and covered by our 3-Year Limited Warranty.
