FAQ
What is Nylon Turf?
Nylon is a premium turf fiber with a higher melting point than the Poly used in most budget mats. It resists the heat from club strikes, so it won’t streak your clubs, and it holds up better to sun, weather, and heavy use.
How heavy is a Proball hitting mat?
Weight depends on the backing. Our 6 x 12 foam-backed Nylon mats weigh 56 to 61 lbs, and the urethane-backed versions weigh 28 to 30 lbs. Because the foam versions are over 50 lbs, we recommend two people for moving or carrying one. Every Proball hitting mat can be rolled for transport or storage.
How durable is this mat?
This mat is built from commercial-grade Nylon turf, which resists cleat wear, UV, and weather, and handles friction heat better than poly. That makes it a longer-lasting choice for outdoor practice season after season. The urethane coating on the back is thin but durable, and it isn’t damaged by water, so rain won’t break it down. The batter’s box lines are tufted into the turf, so they won’t wear off like paint. The home plate is spray-painted, though, and will show wear over time with heavy use. The mat is also covered by our 3-Year Limited Warranty.
Why choose All Turf Mats?
We make our own turf from yarn made by Lex Lawn, right here in Dalton, Georgia. Buying factory-direct means no middleman and honest pricing on commercial-grade Nylon, with FREE Shipping on every mat.
Will the mat slide?
It depends on the surface. The urethane coating is thin, durable, and lightweight, so it doesn’t have the grip of a foam backing. On rough outdoor surfaces like asphalt, packed dirt, or grass, the ground texture helps hold the mat in place. For the most stable setup, secure it by staking it into grass or dirt, or taping it down on asphalt and concrete. On smooth indoor floors like garage slabs, gym floors, or polished concrete, a urethane mat can slide under batter footwork, so we recommend our 5mm foam-backed Proball mats for indoor use. Stakes, tape, and other fastening materials are not included.
Why not a cheaper mat?
Cheaper mats often use Poly turf, which wears out much faster and will streak your clubs leaving green film. Ours is commercial-grade Nylon built in house to last for seasons.
Are Proball mats cleat-resistant?
Our Nylon Proball hitting mats are cleat-resistant. Nylon holds up to cleat wear better than Poly and is also more UV-resistant, weather-resistant, and heat-resistant, which is why we recommend it for frequent practice, schools, and facilities. Poly (the 502 series) is our economy option, better for recreational or lower-frequency use.
